Homemade Sweet Chilli Sauce

I LOVE sweet chilli sauce. I put it on everything; pasta, rice, toast, and even on top of my crudités! It was an item I bought on a regular basis, yet never realised how easy it was to make from scratch. I challenged myself to make my own sauces and dips instead of buying them in packaging to save money and resources! This recipe takes less than 10 minutes to make and therefore is quick, simple and easy peasy lemon squeazy! It's suitable for everyone (even the most busiest of people) and tastes exactly like the shop bought stuff :) Enjoy!

Ingredients:

- 1 large red chilli

- 2 cloves or 1 tbsp of minced garlic

- 2 tbsp of corn starch

- 2 tsp salt

- 1 cup of water and 2 tbsp water separated

- 2/3 cup of sugar

- 1/3 cup of cider vinegar

Recipe:

Step 1.

In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp of water. Set aside.

Step 2.

Mince 2 garlic cloves into a tbsp.

Step 3.

Dice your chilli into small pieces. Make sure you remove the seeds (unless you want extra heat!)

Step 4.

In a large saucepan, add 1 cup of cold water.

Step 5.

Add the minced garlic.

Step 6.

Add the diced chilli.

Step 7.

Add 2/3 cup of sugar.

Step 8.

Add 1/3 cup of cider vinegar.

Step 9.

Add 2 tsp salt and whisk together.

Step 10.

Bring the mixture to a boil. This shouldn't take long so make sure to keep an eye on the pan and regularly stir.

Once at a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir regularly.

Step 11.

Stir in the cornstarch mixture.

Step 12.

Cook for a further 1 minute until the mixture has thickened and there is your homemade batch of sweet chilli sauce.

Make sure you remove the pan off the heat straight away to prevent the mixture thickening too much.
